Columbus, Ga. - The ninth-ranked University of Tampa women's soccer team kicked off the Columbus State Invitational with a 2-0 shutout of West Georgia. With the victory, Tampa improves to 2-0 on the season.
Leading scorer Shelby Kuni assisted the first goal and scored the second to lead the Spartans while goalkeeper Shannon Aitken recorded her first shutout of the season for Tampa. Ashley Flateland scored the first goal, which was also the freshman's first career goal, 74:06 mark while Kuni's goal was a header at 80:58. Courtney Evans was credited with an assist on Kuni's goal.
The Spartans outshot the Braves by an 18-5 mark, with a total of eight shots on goal for Tampa. The Spartan defense limited West Georgia to just two shots on goal, which were both turned away by Aitken.
Tampa concludes the Columbus State Invitational on Sunday against Newberry. Gametime is scheduled for 11:00 am.
