Lauren Moore Designed for Success
TAMPA, Fla. - Five goals scored in 26 minutes played by Lauren Moore shattered a school record in the 13-0 victory over Florida Memorial earlier this season. Moore is playing at a pace that has never happened in Spartans women's soccer. She is just a sophomore.
Thus far she hasn't seen this amount of success in her soccer career. When asked if she had ever scored five goals before, she said "Maybe three goals max in high school." However, she has become a vital part of the University of Tampa women's soccer offense.
Moore, a Tampa, Fla. native, has taken a leadership role on the team through her play and communication on the field. She believes this mentality was developed through her time at Gaither High School, where she was captain of the team. Her time at Gaither allowed her to learn to lead the team on offense, which brought them to regional finals in 2010 and 2011.
She is doing the same for Tampa that she did for Gaither. So far this season, Moore has registered 10 goals with three assists through nine games played. She acknowledged head coach Gerry Lucey for his help in refining her game. Moore said "Coach Lucey has helped me cut down on my touches to the ball, and made me thinking better about the game on the field."
Coach Lucey's work seems to be paying off with Moore, as she leads the Spartans in goals with 10. Tampa also holds the leading Sunshine State Conference (SSC) leading record of 7-2.
She was recognized on Sep. 10 with an SSC Offensive Player of the Week award, following her five-goal performance. She was awarded this honor for her record performance and for following the performance up with goals in her next two matches.
Moore has found success on the field, while also succeeding in the classroom at the University of Tampa. She is majoring in Advertising and Public Relations with an eye towards joining a communications staff at a profit or non-profit organization.
She has always been involved in volunteering for several organizations. She most notably volunteered for three years with the Special Olympics. This volunteering showed how much she cared for others, and helped her work well with peers.
While finding success in soccer Moore has found success in art. In her spare time, Moore sketches designs for t-shirts and iPhone cases. She sketches unique designs, which she sells to interested people when not setting records for Tampa women's soccer.
The chemistry on this Spartans team could be attested for Moore's past in volunteering and being a captain at Gaither High School. She said, "This team is one of the best I have been a part of, and has a great chemistry on the field."
She has a strong belief that the team can go far this season. The success of last season's record of 16-6-2, which went to the NCAA Quarterfinals, gave Moore reason to believe this team can achieve the highest achievement, a championship.
The Spartans women's soccer team is fresh into the 2012 season, but there is good reason to believe this will be a successful one. Head coach Gerry Lucey has had prolific success in the past, and Lauren Moore can help him achieve the highest goal for Tampa.
Record breaking performances and exciting wins have brought the Spartans to a leading SSC record. Great moments are happening at Pepin Stadium this fall, and every Tampa fan should be a part of the success.
