Spartans Sweep Women’s Soccer Player of the Week Award
WINTER PARK, Fla. - Tampa's Cici Gonzalez and Shannon Walisch have been selected Sunshine State Conference Women's Soccer Players of the Week presented by VALIC.
Gonzalez, a sophomore forward from Lutz, Fla., was involved in the first three goals of No. 4 Tampa's 5-0 victory over Palm Beach Atlantic. She scored the game's first goal in the ninth minute before setting up the second goal just six minutes later. Gonzalez scored her second goal of the game late in the second half. After a scoreless first half at Florida Southern, Gonzalez scored the game's only goal just two minutes into the second half to improve the Spartans' record to 9-0.
Walisch, a senior defender from Palm Harbor, Fla., led No. 4 Tampa's defense to its seventh and eighth shutouts of the season. The Spartans have allowed just two goals this season. In a 5-0 victory over Palm Beach Atlantic, Walisch contributed a goal and an assist. She scored in the 15th minute to give Tampa a 2-0 lead, and then set up the fourth goal of the game. Walisch then helped hold Florida Southern to just three shots, one on goal, in a 1-0 win.
