Spartans Upset Choctaws, Morse Logs Hat Trick

CLINTON, Ms. - The University of Tampa women's soccer team upset No. 18 Mississippi College on Sunday afternoon by a final score of 3-1. This was the first win over a ranked opponent since November 15, 2015 against North Alabama in the NCAA tournament.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
1st Half | In the 28th minute, MC's Liza Wise scored on a free kick from about 50 yards to put the Choctaws in front 1-0. However, the Spartans bounced back in the 37th minute as Moeko Morse tallied her first goal of the season to tie things up at one. Each team logged seven shots in the first half and Megan Bromwell recorded four saves. 
 
2nd Half | Tampa grabbed the lead in the opening minutes of the second half when Morse registered her second goal on the afternoon. Within the first 20 minutes of the second half, Bromwell accumulated five saves as Mississippi College applied consistent pressure. The match was interrupted by an hour-long lightning delay in the 72nd minute. Moeko Morse, a true freshman who set the record for 32 goals in a season at Grassfield High School, completed her hat trick in the 83rd minute to seal the deal for the Spartans.
 
INSIDE THE STATS:
  • Four different Spartans logged assists: Lacy Nasello and Elena Barr shared the first assist, while Mia Brantley and Syd Griner tallied the other two. 
  • Bromwell started in net for UT and played all 90 minutes, while racking up 11 saves. 
  • MC's Rita Okoro and UT's Morse each had a game-high five shots, four on target.
