Tampa Carries Lead Into Final Day Of NSU Invitational
FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. - The University of Tampa men's and women's swimming team both lead the NSU Shark Invitational after three days of competition.
In women's action, Tampa has 744 points to lead Florida Southern (607), Nova Southeastern (384), Rollins (344.5), Catawba (252.5) and Lenoir-Rhyne (187). The UT men have 629.5 points to pilot Florida Southern (603), Nova Southeastern (547), Rollins (393), Catawba (223.5) and Lenoir-Rhyne (103).
The Spartans moved up on the Friday, which was the second day of the event. UT's women moved into first place as the men improved to second.
UT took its first victory, winning the men's 200 Free Relay. The team of David Humphrey, Felipe Manzo, Brad Hines and Jeff Fiore won with a time of 1:23.55. Tampa also had individual victories from Chris O'Linger in the 500 Free (4:33.45), Jeff Fiore in the 200 IM (1:54.04) and Humphrey in the 50 Free (21.19).
Heather Glenday won the 500 Free for the Spartan women, winning with a time of 5:02.26. Caroline Belli also championed the 200 IM in 2:07.79.
On Saturday, the Spartans continued to lead on the women's side while moving into first place in men's action as well. O'Linger won the 400 IM (4:02.95) as Fiore placed first in the 200 Free (1:40.47).
Kelsey Lubbers also earned the top finish in the 400 IM (4:32.07) while Lindsay Calimer had the best showing in the 100 Fly (57.48).
Competition will conclude on Sunday as session one is scheduled for 10 a.m., followed by the closing session at 5 p.m.
