Spartan Women Earn Victory in Season Opener
TAMPA, Fla. - The University of Tampa women's swimming team picked up where it left off after a dominating performance at the 2012 NCAA Championships, defeating Sunshine State Conference rival Florida Southern College. The Spartan men were defeated by the Mocs.
Tampa's women claimed the 138-124 victory as FSC's men took a 148-114 decision in the opener for both squads.
The Spartan women began and ended the meet with a relay victory, beginning with the 200 Medley Relay team of Allison Noe, Jamie Pappanastos, Emily Grams and Erin Plachy (1:50.14). UT also captured the 200 Free Relay from Plachy, Kylie Piche, Grams and Kristine Kassl (1:38.04).
Tampa's women also picked up first-place finishes from Catherine Parker in the 200 Fly (2:09.02) and 100 Fly (59.27), Lisa Bero in the 200 Breast (2:28.25) and Alex Hipolito in the 200 IM (2:13.52).
UT's men also won both relays, including the 200 Medley Relay of Karl Burdis, Kevin Doran, Felipe Manzo and David Humphrey (1:33.46) and the 200 Free Relay group of Khalid Albadoos, Jeremy Parker, Humphrey and Manzo (1:24.65).
Individuals who won were Parker in the 200 Free (1:44.58), Burdis in the 100 Back (51.86), Albadoss in the 50 Free (21.49) and Humphrey in the 100 Free (46.56).
The Spartans return to action on Saturday, Oct. 27, at home against SSC opponent Lynn University. The meet is scheduled for 11 a.m., at the UT Aquatics Center. A live video webcast will be offered through TampaSpartans.tv.
