Spartans Alone in First After Day One of Invite

CLEARWATER, Fla. – The University of Tampa women's swimming team wrapped up day one of the four-day Spartan Invite as the top team. The host Spartans are among six teams at the competition.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
• Tampa led the scoring as it had a third-place finish in each of the three events on Friday night.

• The Spartans scored with third-place efforts in the 200 Medley Relay, 1,000 Free and 200 Free Relay.

TOP PERFORMERS:
• A time of 1:45.92 was recorded in the first race of the day for Tampa. The team of Brittany Murphy, McKenzie Street, Sophie Long and Marisa Barton competed in the 200 Medley Relay.

Brittany Bayes was third in the 1,000 Free at 10:22.31. She was followed by teammate Ali Lombardi, who reach the end in 10:22.69. The duo registered 16 and 15 points respectively for the Spartans.

• The final race of the evening was the 200 Free Relay. The team of Barton, Courtney Markle, Megan Waddell and Molly O'Hara were timed at 1:35.19.

UP NEXT:
Day two of the Spartan Invite will begin at 9:30 a.m., with the prelims followed by the 6 p.m., finals. Sunday will also have the same times, as Monday's slate has the 9:30 a.m., prelims and 5 p.m., finals.
