Phil Murray has been a member of the University of Tampa swimming staff since the 2003-04 season.

Murray holds one of the program’s longest-tenured coaching careers, serving as an assistant coach for both the men’s and women’s teams since 2003. A standout student-athlete for the Spartans from 1999 to 2003, Murray was a four-time All-American and three-time Academic All-American during his collegiate career.

He graduated from Tampa in 2003 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Biochemistry and immediately transitioned into coaching, joining the staff for the 2003-04 season.

Murray continued his academic pursuits while developing within the coaching profession, earning his Ph.D. in Peptide Chemistry from the University of South Florida in 2012.

In the fall of 2013, he joined the UT faculty, where he has established himself as an accomplished educator and researcher. He recently earned promotion to the rank of full professor, reflecting his significant contributions to the academic community.
