BURLEY BOKOS SETS SCHOOL RECORD IN 400 INDIVIDUAL MEDLEY, WHILE SEVEN INDIVIDUALS NAMED ALL-AMERICAN
EVANSVILLE, Ind. - The University of Tampa men's and women's swimming teams completed the first full day of competition at the 2026 Division II NCAA Swimming & Diving Championships, highlighted by an individual National Championship and seven All-American swims.
In his debut individual event of these championships, junior Jacob Hamlin won his second consecutive National Title in the 1000 Freestyle, stopping the clock at 8:50.02
Hamlin on his National Title winning performance, "Tonight felt really good. Thanks to God, I had a lot of faith and heart in that swim. It was not quite as fast as I wanted it to be, but we've got a lot of fire, and a lot of fight left in us for the rest of the week."
Head Coach Jimi Kiner on his team's performance on day 2, "Every single swim they had moved up, where we were seeded, we got faster, and that is going to be key for us. We get those swims in the morning and then continue to move up at night."
On the women's side, sophomore Burley Bokos was the highest finisher, swimming to a third-place finish in the 1000 Freestyle, hitting the wall in a new school record time of 9:59.98.
Bokos on her school record-setting performance, "I'm extremely happy with how I competed tonight. I was able to learn from my performance at the conference last month and execute my race plan. This swim gives me a lot of confidence for the rest of the weekend."
Kiner on how his team can set the tone tomorrow, starting with the first event, the 400 Individual Medley, "The 400 IM is a gritty event, the girls and guys have to get their heads down, swim a smart race, and do what we've been training all year."
