TAMPA, Fla. - The 28th ranked University of Tampa women's tennis team came out on the winning side of a 5-4 match with the University of Puerto Rico-Rio Piedras. The victory moves UT to 3-8 while UPRRP drops to 0-2.
The Spartans took a 2-1 lead following a pair of doubles victories. The number one team of Estefania Greco and Kourtney Stark registered an 8-6 win while the number two team of Caitlin Scudder and Emily Kennedy notched a 9-8 victory following an 8-6 win in the tie breaker.
Stark also recorded a win from the number two singles spot. After winning game one 6-2, Stark dropped the second game 7-6 (12-10), but rebounded for a 6-1 third set win. Scudder and Ally Wooten also won their singles matches from the four and five spots respectively.
The Spartans now travel to Tifton, Ga., where they will face Montevallo (Ala.) on Saturday at 3 p.m.
