Saint Leo Tops Tampa
SAINT LEO, Fla. - The University of Tampa (0-7) tennis team suffered a 7-2 loss to Saint Leo University (1-6) in a non-conference meeting between the Sunshine State Conference opponents.
UT got both of its victories in single splay, coming from the number three and four spots. Claire Runge earned a win over Asmaa Tazi at the three spot. With a 4-0 lead in the first set, Runge got the win following Tazi's retirement.
After losing the first set by a 6-3 score, fellow freshman Victoria Bell claimed the victory by winning 7-5 and 10-7 against Jeanette McDonald.
Tampa is back in action against No. 25 Augusta State (Ga.) on Thursday at 3 p.m. The match will consist of the same doubles format, while singles play will be an eight game set rather than two of three traditional sets. Music will also be played during the match to create additional fan friendliness.
