Spartans Conclude 2012 Campaign at SSC Championships

LAKELAND, Fla. - The University of Tampa (7-11) tennis team ended its 2012 season at the 2012 Florida Blue Sunshine State Conference Championship backdraw in a 5-2 loss to No. 18 Nova Southeastern (8-14).

The number-one doubles team of Lauren Hewett and Meg Wladimirski defeated their second nationally-ranked opponent, topping No. 22 Alexandra Johansson and Austin Lavalli by an 8-3 score.

Wladimirski picked up the second UT victory, defeating Bianca Roberts in the number-three singles match by a score of 6-2, 6-2.

Of the two unfinished matches, Tampa's Hewett had a match point when play was halted as Thashia Garcia was also on the verge of forcing a third set in the number-one contest.

The Spartans conclude the 2012 season with seven victories while playing a schedule that included nine nationally-ranked opponents. The young Spartans also had a lineup consisting of three freshmen and two sophomores.
