No. 8 Lynn Defeats No. 14 Tampa in SSC Tournament Opener

BOCA RATON, Fla. - The No. 14 University of Tampa (15-6) tennis team was defeated by No. 8 Lynn University (15-3) by a 5-1 score in the first round of the 2013 Sunshine State Conference Tournament.

Tampa's lone victory came at number two doubles as the duo of Kelsey Matthews and Lindsay Nochowicz prevailed by an 8-4 score. UT fell by a slim 9-7 margin in number one singles as t6he Fighting Knights headed to singles play with a 2-1 lead.

In singles, Lynn received victories from the number one, two and five matches.

Tampa returns to action on Friday against the loser of Thursday's opening round match between Saint Leo and Florida Tech. The match will begin at 11:30 a.m. The SSC tournament will last through Saturday.
