Tampa Blanks MSU-Moorhead to Win Fourth Straight
Sophomore Cameron Moskol was among the Spartans who won in both singles and doubles action.
TAMPA, Fla. - The University of Tampa (5-2) tennis team picked up another lopsided victory, topping Minnesota State University at Moorhead (6-3) by a score of 9-0.
The match was played Monday afternoon at the Naimoli & Young Family Complex on the campus of UT.
UT started the match with a sweep in doubles action, led by an 8-3 win from Kristen Mee and Emily Hewland at number one.
Also winning in doubles was the two team of Maddie Stephens and Danielle Beyes as the freshman duo won 8-4. The number-three team of Cameron Moskol and Gianna Pinasco made it a clean sweep of doubles play with an 8-2 victory.
In singles, Mee paced Tampa from her number-one position as she defeated her opponent 6-0, 6-3. Hewland won at two by scores of 6-1, 6-3 as Stephens and Beyes each won by identical 6-0, 6-2 scores at the three and four spots.
Moskol won a third-set tiebreak in the number five match. After falling 7-5 in the first set, Moskol battled back to win the following sets 6-4 and 10-6. Pinasco also claimed a sweep at number six, winning 6-2, 6-0.
Tampa returns to action on Thursday at 3 p.m., when it welcomes No. 43 Texas A&M-Kingville for a match.
