Tampa Upends No. 43 Texas A&M Kingsville
Freshman Maddie Stephens was the lone Spartan to win in both singles and doubles.
TAMPA, Fla. - The University of Tampa (6-2) tennis team picked up a victory over a nationally-ranked opponent, with a 5-4 victory over No. 43 Texas A&M University at Kingsville (4-10) on Thursday at the Naimoli & Young Family Complex.
Tampa took the early momentum with a pair of victories in doubles play. The number one team of Kristen Mee and Emily Hewland fought off their opponents for an 8-5 victory.
Freshmen Maddie Stephens and Danielle Beyes came back from an early deficit to earn an 8-6 victory, swinging the match in favor of the Spartans.
The teams earned a 3-3 split in singles action, with UT getting victories from Stephens at three (6-0, 6-2), Gianna Pinasco at five (6-3, 6-0) and Bridgett Blowe at six (6-1, 6-2).
Tampa is back in action on Saturday at 1 p.m., when it plays host to Merrimack College. The Warriors enter with an 0-2 spring record.
