UT Drops SSC Opener to Mocs
Tampa and Florida Southern went back and forth in doubles and singles play.
TAMPA, Fla. - The University of Tampa (6-3, 0-1 SSC) tennis team fell to Florida Southern College (7-4, 1-1 SSC) by a 5-4 score in its Sunshine State Conference opener on Tuesday at the Naimoli & Young Family Complex.
Tampa started strong, taking two of three doubles matches. The number one duo of Kristen Mee and Emily Hewland took their opponents to a tiebreak, where they emerged victorious at 9-7 in the tiebreaker.
The number three doubles team of Gianna Pinasco and Lauriane Cardot also won their match, topping the Mocs 8-5.
In singles, UT had wins from Maddie Stephens and Bridgett Blowe. Stephens won her three match by scores of 7-6 (7-1), 6-3. Blowe won by scores of 6-2, 7-6 (7-3). Overall, there was a total of five tiebreaks in the match.
Tampa returns to action on Thursday against Florida Tech in another SSC contest. The match is scheduled to start at 3 p.m.
