Spartan’s Won’t Buc’ Winning Trend, Improve to 10-0
MIAMI SHORES, Fla. - Looking at a 10 game winning streak, the No. 2 University of Tampa volleyball team defeated Barry University in three sets to improve to a perfect 10-0 on the season while finishing the weekend 2-0 in Sunshine State Conference play. With the loss, the Bucs drop to 6-2 on the season with a 0-2 SSC record.
Senior Camille Hanks led the match with four blocks with a .625 match attack percentage while Danielle Selkridge posted nine kills at an even .500 clip. Libero Julie Howlett notched 17 digs on the match while the team totaled 10 blocks to round out the UT defense.
Spartans took the first set by a 25-21 margin as Hanks blocked four and killed two, contributing key plays in the set. Senior Eva Dupay and Selkridge grounded four balls each with Holly Reschke swatting three. Senior libero Howlett dug out four Buccaneer attacks while Kahley Patrick, who also had four digs, assisted seven Tampa attacks to round out the premier set.
Tampa pulled away in the second stanza, winning 25-14. The three Spartan middle hitters, Hanks, Selkridge, and Meagan Burke, combined an 8-for-12 in kills, good for a .750 attack percentage. Reschke tallied another three kills with two solo blocks. Tampa limited Barry to a -.062 attack percentage on the set while the team combined for a .333 clip.
The third frame was won 25-21 as Barry put up a fight before the Spartans took the match. The Spartans head home to face SSC rival Florida Southern in a Tuesday night game, slated for a 7 p.m. start time. Live stats will be made available through www.tampaspartans.com.
