Saints Come Marching Toward Tampa in Volleyball Matchup
TAMPA, Fla. - The No. 2 University of Tampa volleyball team is set to welcome Flagler College for a midweek matchup. The contest is set for a 7 p.m. start time at the Martinez Athletics Center.
The Spartans sit at a 20-1 record this season, with their lone defeat coming at the hands of the top ranked Concordia-St. Paul Golden Bears. Tampa concluded its previous week 2-0 after a pair of strong road wins against Rollins College and Florida Southern College.
The UT offense is led by three-time Sunshine State Conference Player of the Week, Berkley Whaley and senior outside hitter Holly Reschke. The duo leads the team in kills with 243 and 197 respectively. Setter Kahley Patrick tunes the Tampa offense with 558 assists to tempo the UT offense.
Middle blocking tandem Jessica Wagner and Meagan Burke hold the net defense with 81 and 74 blocks, as the latter is also swinging at a torrid .435 clip. The libero corps of Jen Scholz and Frances Cardenas range the back row with 194 and 162 digs respectively.
The Saints of Flagler College are coming off a 3-0 defeat at the hands of Palm Beach Atlantic University, sinking to a 14-8 record as they march on toward Tampa.
The FC offense is led by Emilee Taylor and Abbey Myers who each have grounded over 200 kills this season. Outside hitter Taylor also is second in digs with 275 behind libero Caitlyn Kovach who has 415.
UT holds the all-time series record against Flagler with a 9-0 tally, as the Saints have proven no match for the Spartans. In their last meeting in 2012, Tampa took the match 3-1 on the road.
