Tampa to Compete in the South Region Crossover
The Spartans are set to compete in a regional clash at the Orlando Sports Complex in Orlando, Fla. this weekend.
ORLANDO, Fla. – The University of Tampa volleyball team is set to compete in the South Region Crossover tournament hosted by the Sunshine State Conference at the Orlando Sports Complex beginning Friday, Oct. 14.
The Spartans will open the crossover with a 10 a.m. contest against Christian Brothers on Friday, Oct. 14 followed by a 2:30 p.m. match against Shorter University. UT will close out play on Saturday, Oct. 15 with a match against Union University at 10 a.m.
The 22-team tournament features both the Sunshine State Conference and Gulf South Conference, as the nine members and two provisional members will compete against the 11 GSC volleyball programs.
The two-day, four-court event is presented by title sponsor Junior's Catering, as the company has been offering customers fast delivery of fresh food with top-notch service since 2000. Juniors Catering specializes in sports / team catering, delivering food to local and traveling teams in Broward County, Miami-Dade County, and parts of Palm Beach County at an affordable price.
Both leagues are off to a great start in 2016. SSC teams have a combined record of 93-63 (.596), while GSC teams have compiled a 108-81 (.534) record. University of Tampa (No. 21) and Florida Southern College (No. 22) represent the SSC in the AVCA national poll, while SSC provisional member, Palm Beach Atlantic University (No. 14), is also ranked.
Last season, SSC and provisional member teams combined for a 30 and 3 record against the GSC at the South Region Crossover. Twenty-two of the SSC's 30 victories came in just three sets. The tournament team consisted of six SSC student-athletes and one provisional member student-athlete.
