Tampa Volleyball Sweeps SSC Player of the Week Awards

After sweeping No. 3 Palm Beach Atlantic Unversity and Nova Southeastern University last week, the University of Tampa volleyball team swept the weekly Sunshine State Conference Player of the Week awards.

Taylor Fosler was named the Offensive Player of the Week, and Sammy Mueller earned Setter of the Week accolades. Both Fosler and Mueller earned their second career weekly honors. Nicole Dominguez earned her first career SSC honors as the Defensive Player of the Week.

Fosler led the Spartans' offense with a team-high 12 kills in the match against PBA, tallying a kill percentage of .296. She also recorded one assist, two digs and three block assists for Tampa. Fosler hit an outstanding .538 against Nova Southeastern, picking up eight kills on just 13 attempts. The junior middle blocker also provided the Spartans with two block assists in the win. Fosler currently tops the SSC in hitting percentage hitting at .425.

Mueller quarterbacked the Spartans' offense with 31 assists against the Sailfish. Additionally, she logged one ace, one block and eight digs in the victory. The junior setter then racked up 27 assists and six digs in the win against the Sharks. So far this season, Mueller has tallied 554 assists, which is good for 5th in the SSC. 

Dominguez led the Spartans' defensive efforts against Palm Beach Atlantic with a team-high 14 digs. Against the Sharks, the junior totaled 19 kills, three assists and one service ace. On the season, Dominguez has now recorded 200 digs and is averaging 3.85 digs per set.

The Spartans are currently 13-1 overall, and 6-0 in SSC play. Tampa is now the only SSC team unbeaten in conference play. The Spartans will back in action on Sept. 28 on the road against Lynn University. The game is scheduled to begin at 7:00 p.m.
