UT Earns a Pair of Victories to Close Out the South Region Crossover

ORLANDO, Fla. – In the second day of competition at the South Region Crossover, hosted by the Sunshine State Conference, UT advances their winning streak to 17-0, defeating the Lee University Flames in four sets, and the No. 12 University of West Florida Argonauts in five sets.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
Against the Flames, sophomore outside hitter, Katie McKiel, led the Spartans on both offense and defense. The Colorado Springs native, hit .350, earning 18 kills on 40 attempts with only four errors, in addition to recording a team-high of 15 digs, as well as contributing on three blocks for the Spartans. The other major key to the Spartans offensive success was middle blocker Alexandra Misca who earned nine kills on 12 attempts and ended the match hitting .583. Junior Sammy Mueller also recorded a double-double at the setting position. She stated 42 assists and 11 digs in the match.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
In this match sophomore outside hitter, Sorrel Houghton was UNSTOPPABLE. She recorded a season-high of 22 kills on 40 attempts with only three errors, earning an outstanding kill percentage of .475 in the match. Junior Taylor Fosler also played lights out offensively for the Spartans. Fosler logged 14 kills on 20 attempts, hitting a .550 in the match. Defensively, freshman defensive specialist, Claudia Rivera came up big for the Spartans, earning a team-high of 16 digs, followed by libero Dominguez and setter Mueller each with 15. Mueller also recorded a season-high in the match with 58 total assists.


INSIDE THE STATS:

  • Sammy Mueller earned her 14th double-double of the season with 58 assists and 15 digs.
  • In addition to having 14 kills offensively, Taylor Fosler contributed on a total of eight blocks defensively  


BEYOND THE BOXSCORE:
The Spartans lead the all-time series over the Argonauts 15-5.
