UTampa Elevates Brian Imperiale to Head Volleyball Coach
TAMPA, Fla. – Brian Imperiale has been named head coach of the University of Tampa volleyball program.
Imperiale was named interim head coach prior to the 2025 season following the retirement of longtime head coach Chris Catanach. In his first season in charge of the program Imperiale and the program currently hold the No. 1 ranking in the nation and are 16-0.
E. J. Brophy, UTampa athletic director and vice president of athletics, said that Imperiale has proven this season that he is an outstanding head coach and mentor of student-athletes.
"We are removing the interim tag and naming him our full-fledged head volleyball coach, and I can guarantee you he has earned this promotion," Brophy said.
Imperiale was first hired in 2014 and enjoyed instant success at UTampa as the Spartans captured the 2014 national championship. The program went 34-1 on the season, which included a perfect 16-0 showing in the Sunshine State Conference. With Imperiale on staff the Spartans went on to win national championships in 2018 and 2021.
He was promoted to associate head coach following the 2021 national championship.
Imperiale said he is honored to be trusted with leading the University of Tampa volleyball program. "I feel fortunate to work alongside so many dedicated coaches and people who care deeply about this university, and their encouragement has meant a great deal to me," Imperiale said. "The future of UTampa volleyball is bright, and I'm excited for what's ahead as we continue to grow, compete, and represent this University the right way." So far this year, with Imperiale at the helm, the volleyball has been dominant on the court, most recently with a victory over Sunshine State conference rival Barry University.
