Under his leadership, Tampa captured four NCAA Division II National Championships, won 20 NCAA South Region titles and claimed 28 Sunshine State Conference regular-season championships. The Spartans advanced to the NCAA Tournament 36 times and made eight NCAA Division II Final Four appearances.
A five-time National Coach of the Year and 19-time Sunshine State Conference Coach of the Year, Catanach mentored numerous standout student-athletes throughout his career, including National Players of the Year, 83 All-Americans and 15 SSC Players of the Year.
In 2023, Catanach was presented with the Lee Roy Selmon Lifetime Achievement Award by the Tampa Bay Sports Commission, adding to a lengthy list of accolades recognizing his impact on collegiate athletics and the Tampa Bay community.
"It is an incredible honor to see Coach Catanach recognized by the Sports Club of Tampa Bay," said University of Tampa Director of Athletics E. J. Brophy. "His impact on the University of Tampa, collegiate volleyball and the Tampa Bay sports community is immeasurable. The championships, victories and awards speak for themselves, but his influence on generations of student-athletes is what truly defines his legacy."
Catanach was inducted alongside an accomplished Hall of Fame class that included Tampa Bay Buccaneers Ring of Honor member Jimmie Giles, Stanley Cup-winning coach John Tortorella, former NFL wide receiver Darrell Jackson, longtime Tampa Prep basketball coach Joe Fenlon, former Major League Baseball catcher and manager John Tamargo, and sports communications professional Rick Vaughn.
The Sports Club of Tampa Bay Hall of Fame, now in its 42nd year, honors individuals who have made significant contributions to the region's rich sports history. The organization has supported amateur and professional athletics throughout the Tampa Bay area since 1961 and has awarded more than $1 million to local youth teams and competitors.
With his induction, Catanach joins an esteemed group of Tampa Bay sports legends that includes Lee Roy Selmon, Lou Piniella, Wade Boggs, Phil Esposito, Derrick Brooks, Ronde Barber, Jon Cooper, Evan Longoria, Dick Vitale and many others.
Catanach's Hall of Fame induction serves as another fitting tribute to a career that helped establish the University of Tampa as one of the premier volleyball programs in NCAA Division II history.
