Women’s Cross Country Advances to NCAA Championships

Memphis, Tenn. - The University of Tampa women's cross country team finished second at the NCAA South Regional to advance to the 2006 NCAA National Championships. The Spartans finished behind Harding in the meet that featured 22 women's teams. The Spartan men also competed in the event, which was hosted by Christian Brothers, and placed fifth of 17 teams.

Laura Woznicki led Tampa's women, placing 11th of 150 runners with a time of 22:52. Freshman Paige Williams was the second Spartan to cross the finish line, doing so with a 23:12 time to place 14th. UT's second-place effort was rounded out by Alysha Duffy (18th, 23:39), Jessica Forrester (19th, 23:45) and Michelle Gabrielle (28th, 24:09). Michelle Gabrielle, Sara Nelson and Dara Fox also completed the race for Tampa.

On the men's side, junior David Forry led the way with an eighth-place finish and a time of 32:23. Freshmen Tony Nicolosi and Jeremy Lautzenheiser finished 22-23 and were three-seconds apart with respective times of 33:36 and 33:39. Fellow freshmen Jake Bess (68th, 35:36) and Scott Cohen (71st, 35:43) placed among UT's top five finishers. Chris Catanach and Trevor Van Knotsenburg also ran in the race.
