UT Set to Host 2014 SSC Cross Country Championships
TAMPA, Fla. - The 2014 Sunshine State
Conference Cross Country Championships will take place on Saturday
as the University of Tampa will host the meet at Sydney Dover
Trails. The men's 8K race will begin at 7:45 a.m., followed by the
women's 6K event at 8:30 a.m.
Florida Southern, Florida Tech, Lynn (women), Nova
Southeastern, Rollins, Saint Leo, and Tampa will vie for the SSC
championships.
On the women's side, Tampa has won seven consecutive SSC
championships dating back to 2007. So far this fall, UT has won
five of its six races.
The SSC men's championship has went to three different schools
the last three years, including Florida Southern in 2013, Nova
Southeastern in 2013 and Tampa in 2011. Prior to that, FSX had
taken 14 straight titles as the Mocs have won 15 of the last 17
league championships.
In the latest USTFCCCA South Region women's cross country
rankings, Tampa holds the top spot, while Saint Leo is third and
Nova Southeastern in eighth.
On the men's side, Saint Leo is the top-ranked team in the
South Region, with fellow SSC schools Florida Southern (2), Tampa
(5) and Nova Southeastern (7) also represented.
In the national rankings, both Saint Leo's men and Tampa's
women are listed as receiving votes.
The 2014 SSC Men's and Women's Cross Country Championships
awards ceremony will take place following the completion of both
races. Team championship trophies will be presented to the top
men's team and the top women's team. In addition, the
All-Championship Team (the top ten men finishers and the top ten
women finishers) will be announced.
DIRECTIONS TO SYDNEY DOVER TRAILS
From Tampa:
Go East on Hwy 60 all the way through Brandon to Dover Rd
(just east the railroad tracks) and east of the fire tower . Get
in the left lane and take the 3rd cut-through into the park (on
left hand side). If you get to Sydney Washer Rd, you went too far
east.
From Orlando:
Take I- 4 West. Exit at Plant City and head south to Hwy 60.
Take Hwy 60 west past Sydney Washer Rd. Get in the right lane.
The entrance to the park will be on right-hand side, about
½ mile past (west of) Sidney Washer Rd. If you get to Dover
Rd, you went too far west.
