Spartans Win Mid-Week Matchup

TAMPA, Fla. - The University of Tampa baseball team swept Catawba in the two game series.

  • The Spartans were first to score in the bottom of the first. A RBI from Drew Ehrhard allowed Stephen Smith to score. 
  • Catawba battled back with a run in the top of the second.
  • Danny Maynard homered to center field. Spartans lead 2-1. 
  • Top of the third the Indians tied it up at twos.
  • Tampa battled back with a RBI single from Darren Miller, Ehrhard scored. 
  • Cooper Krug relieved pitcher Jordan Leasure
  • Top of the fifth Catawba scored two runs.
  • Connor Crile scored off a RBI single from Danny Sirven. RBI single from Nick DeTringo allowed Harrison Bragg to score. Sirven scored off a wild pitch. Brandon Gali and Maynard scored off a RBI double from Ehrhard. Smith scored off a sacrificed fly RBI from Crile. Bragg homered, 3 RBI; Miller scored; Ehrhard scored. Spartans lead 12-5 at the bottom of the fifth.
  • Christian Calleja relieved pitcher Cooper Krug. Catawba scored two runs in the top of the sixth.
  • Top of the eighth the Indians scored one run. The Spartans led 12-8. 
  • Tampa won 12-8.


  • Calleja had his second win of the season.
  • Pitchers tallied five strikeouts. Krug led the Spartans in strikeouts with three. 
  • Drew Ehrhard led the Spartans in hits with three. 
  • Smith, Ehrhard, Bragg and Maynard led the Spartans in runs with two each. 
  • Danny Maynard had his first homerun of the season. Harrison Bragg scored his fifth homerun of the season.  


Tampa returns to action on Friday, March 9th, at 6:00PM for a three game series at Albany State.
