Irigoyen, Woodburn Combine for 3 Homers to Power Spartans Past Post
TAMPA, Fla. - The top‑ranked University of Tampa baseball team capitalize on a fast start to remain undefeated in the series opener against Post.
Robert Satin toed the rubber for the Spartans, marking his third start of the season. Satin's dominant start to the season continued as he logged another 5.0 IP while only giving up 3 hits and 1 walk and striking out 10 eagle batters. However, Satin did surrender his first runs of the season in the fifth inning after nearly getting out of a bases loaded, no out jam. Both runs were unearned though, leaving Satin's ERA for the season at 0.00.
The Spartan offense would get off to a red hot start, putting up three runs in the first inning through smart base running, and capped with a 2-run Home Run from Jhoander Irigoyen. The scoring would cease until Irigoyen stepped up to the plate for his second at-bat to lead off the fourth. The result, Irigoyen hitting his second home run of the night in as many at-bats bringing his season home run tally to 3. Irigoyen's 3 RBI for the game brought his RBI total for the season to 10, and also marked the third consecutive game that Irigoyen has posted multiple RBI.
Before the night was over, Irigoyen would have company in the home run club, as Brayden Woodburn would lead off the eighth inning with a solo home run of his own, marking his second of the season. Woodburn's home run would also provide the Spartans with added insurance before the ninth inning by pushing their 2-run lead to 3. Woodburn would also swipe a pair of bases, bringing his stolen base total to a team-leading 7 for the season.
Tampa would only need two pitchers on this night, as Sammy Beir would appear in relief of Satin to start the sixth and finish the game. This marks the first time that Beir pitched 4.0 innings in a game in his career. It would also prove to be arguably the best outing of his collegiate career as Beir would only allow 1 hit while striking out 7 batters over his outing.
Beir would pick up the save, marking the second save of the season for him, while Satin would pick up the win to improve his record to (3-0).
