TAMPA, Fla. – The No. 3 University of Tampa men's lacrosse team delivered a strong all-around performance on Saturday night, defeating No. 17 Rollins, 10–5, at Naimoli Family Athletic and Intramural Complex. With the victory, the Spartans improved to 13-1 overall and remained unbeaten in Sunshine State Conference play at 4-0.
How It Happened
Tampa wasted no time setting the tone, as Jackson Bashaw found the back of the net just 12 seconds into the contest to give the Spartans an early 1–0 lead. The defensive units controlled the remainder of the first quarter, holding Rollins scoreless.
The Spartans broke the game open in the second quarter with a dominant five-goal run. Aaron Cho, Rafe Bradshaw, and Rex Kesselring each scored during the surge, while Tommy Ortega added a man-up goal. Kesselring capped the half with his second goal of the night, sending Tampa into halftime with a commanding 6–1 advantage.
Rollins attempted to chip away in the third quarter, scoring the lone goal of the period to cut the deficit to 6–2, as both defenses tightened.
In the fourth quarter, Tampa responded to every push. Ortega opened the scoring in the period before Rollins netted back-to-back goals to make it 7–4. The Spartans answered emphatically with a three-goal run, highlighted by Bashaw's second of the night and back-to-back tallies from Grant Green, including a man-up conversion. Rollins added a late goal, but Tampa remained in control to secure the 10–5 victory.
