EVAN GIBBS WINS ELITE SCHOLAR-ATHLETE AWARD FOR NCAA DIVISION II MEN'S LACROSSE CHAMPIONSHIP
TAMPA, Fla. --- Evan Gibbs, a senior at the University of Tampa, is the recipient of the Elite Scholar-Athlete award for the 2026 NCAA Division II Men's Lacrosse Championship.
Gibbs, majoring in Finance, currently carries a 3.94 GPA. Gibbs was presented with the award during the Men's Lacrosse Championships Banquet on the evening of Friday, May 22 in Charlottesville, Va.
Gibbs, who also won the award prior to the 2025 championships, is the third person in Tampa athletics history to receive the prestigious award, and the first male. Previous winners include former women's basketball player Audrey Ramsey and women's swimmer Hana Van Loock. Ramsey was awarded at the 2024 NCAA Women's Basketball Championship in St. Joseph, Mo., as Van Loock received the award at the 2021 NCAA Swimming Championships in Birmingham, Ala.
The Elite Scholar-Athlete award recognizes the true essence of student-athletes by honoring the individuals who have reached the pinnacle of competition at the national championship level in their sport, while also achieving the highest academic standard among their peers. The Elite Scholar-Athlete award is presented to the student-athlete with the highest cumulative grade-point average participating at the finals site for each of the NCAA's championships.
Eligible student-athletes are sophomores or above academically who have participated in a sport for at least two years with their school. All ties are broken based on the number of credits completed.
