DAHLONEGA, Ga. - The top-ranked University of Tampa men's soccer team completed its weekend a perfect 2-0 with Sunday's 3-1 victory over North Georgia College and State University. After Friday's strong defensive showing, the Spartans improve to 3-0 on the season with a three goal effort, while the Saints drop to an even 2-2.
Senior Lister Warren tallied his first two goals of the season in the first half. The first goal came at the 8:08 minute mark. Dan Ingvarsson kicked the ball downfield to freshman Dominic Goncalves who fed a pass in front to Warren. The goal was Warren's first of the season after tallying a team-leading 11 last year.
Seven minutes later, Ingvarsson connected once again with Warren, who put it passed the Saints' goalkeeper Rade Tanaskovic for his second goal of the match. North Georgia's Calvin Cook brought the game back to within a goal, but the Spartans' Mike Bethel scored his first of the season 10 minutes into the second half to put the game away. Gonclaves earned his second assist of the afternoon on the goal.
Tanaskovic finished the contest with four saves while Tampa's Ryan Thompson finished with five against the Saints.
The match also featured seven yellow cards, five against the Saints and two against the Spartans.
The Spartans return home to face Savannah College of Art and
Design on Friday at 3:30 pm. Livestats will be available on
