HOW IT HAPPENED:
1st Half |
The competition started with a basket by the lions.  Staja Tyghter then put the Spartans on the board after being fouled and making one of her free throws. Emily Eshoo then recorded a jump shot for the Spartans, giving them a slight advantage. Both teams continued to exchange baskets until the first media timeout, with the score tied at 11. Eshoo then sunk the Spartans first three pointer giving Tampa a 14-13 point lead. At the end of the first quarter, the score remained 14-13. The second quarter was scoreless for three minutes until Aliyah Abney ended the drought by bringing the rain. At the end of the half, the Spartans and Lions were tied at 20.

2nd Half | Coming out of the locker room, Eshoo was first to score in the second half making it 22-20. At the first media timeout of the half, the game remained a back and forth battle with the score tied at 29. Eshoo continued to drain threes ending the third quarter 4 for 6 from behind the arc and leading the team with 20 points, and four rebounds. At the end of the third Tampa led the Lions 37-31. Sophomore Rachel Warden scored a layup to open the fourth quarter. Tyghter then put numbers on the board with a layup immediately after. For the remainder of the game, the Spartans continued to dominate on the court and stole the remaining breath of Lions roar. The Tampa Spartans defeated the Saint Leo Lions with a final score of 56-35.
