TAMPA, Fla. – The University of Tampa men's lacrosse team used a dominant second half to secure a 13–8 victory over Lynn University Saturday afternoon at the Naimoli Family Athletic and Intramural Complex. With the win, the Spartans improve to 15-1 overall and remain undefeated in conference play at 6-0.
How It Happened
Tampa struck first midway through the opening quarter on a goal from Tommy Ortega, but Lynn answered to keep the game tied 1–1 after one.
The Spartans found their rhythm in the second quarter. Ortega scored again early, Rafe Bradshaw added an unassisted goal, and Evan Gibbs capitalized on a feed from Dom Rottura to give Tampa a 4–2 edge. Lynn managed to stay within reach, trailing just 4–3 at halftime.
The third quarter proved to be the turning point. Tampa erupted for six goals in the frame, highlighted by scores from Kyle White, Rex Kesselring, Ortega, and two from Bradshaw. A buzzer-beating goal from Jackson Bashaw pushed the Spartans' lead to 10–5 entering the final quarter.
In the fourth, Bradshaw and Bashaw each added another goal to extend the margin before Lynn scored twice late to account for the 13–8 final.
Spartan Performances
Ortega, Bradshaw, and Bashaw each finished with three goals to pace the offense.
Kesselring added two goals and an assist, while Gibbs and White also scored.
Thomas dominated at the faceoff X, winning 19-of-20 attempts and collecting 14 ground balls.
The Spartans held a commanding 41–21 edge in ground balls and controlled possession throughout.
Schmidt earned the win in goal with five saves over 54 minutes of action.
